Flat Tire in Merzouga: What to Do

Stony tracks and sharp hamada rocks around Merzouga cause plenty of punctures. Here's how to handle one.

Stop on firm ground

Pull over where the ground is flat and solid. A jack sinks easily into sand — put a flat stone or board under it.

Changing the wheel

  • Hazard lights on, handbrake on, passengers out.
  • Loosen wheel nuts slightly before lifting.
  • Lift, swap the wheel, tighten nuts in a cross pattern.
  • Check spare tire pressure as soon as possible.

No usable spare?

It happens — rental spares are sometimes flat or the wrong size. Send us your location and tire size (printed on the sidewall, e.g. 205/55 R16). We can bring a repair or help source a tire.

After the repair

Have the damaged tire repaired or replaced before continuing into the desert, so you always have a usable spare.
