How to Prepare Your Car Before Driving Around Merzouga

Heat, long distances and dusty tracks put extra stress on any vehicle. A 15-minute check before you go prevents most of the breakdowns we see.

Checklist

  • Tires: tread, sidewall cuts, correct pressure, spare inflated.
  • Coolant level and visible hose condition.
  • Engine oil level.
  • Battery terminals clean and tight.
  • Brakes: no noise or pulling.
  • Air filter not clogged with dust.
  • Lights and indicators working.

What to carry

  • At least 5 litres of drinking water per person.
  • A working jack, wheel wrench and spare.
  • A small tire compressor if you plan to use tracks.
  • A phone charger and offline maps.

Fuel

Fill up in Erfoud or Rissani. There is fuel in Merzouga area, but don't plan long desert tracks on a low tank.
